SriLankan Joins Oneworld

SriLankan Airlines announced it is set to become a member of the oneworld alliance on Thursday.  The carrier will be the first from the Indian subcontinent to join a global airline alliance.

Members of SriLankan’s FlySmiles frequent flyer program will be able to earn and redeem miles on other oneworld member carrier-operated flights, while top tier members will have access to the alliance’s airport lounges.  In addition, members of other oneworld member airlines’ frequent flyer programs will be able to earn and redeem miles on SriLankan flights.

The carrier also adds three new destinations to the alliance’s network: Kochi, Tiruchirappalli, and Thiruvananthapuram, India.

SriLankan’s first flight as a oneworld member will depart at 7:45 a.m. Thursday from Colombo, Sri Lanka to Kuala Lumpur.

SriLankan Airlines is the national flag carrier of Sri Lanka.  It currently serves 65 destinations in over 35 countries around the world.
