Hawaiian Airlines announced the launch of a codeshare agreement with Air China.

Under the agreement, Hawaiian Airlines is able to place its code on flights operated by Air China between Beijing and Shanghai, Hangzhou, Guangzhou, and Shenyang, China. In addition, Air China can place its code on Hawaiian-operated flights between Honolulu and the Hawaiian destinations of Kahului, Lihue, Kona, and Hilo.

The agreement is expected to be a starting point for the two airlines to codeshare on more Chinese and North American routes in the future. The two carriers are still in negotiations to allow members of their frequent flyer programs to earn and redeem points on flights operated by either carrier.

The codeshare agreement follows the launch of Hawaiian’s new thrice weekly service between Honolulu and Bejing, which began earlier this week.
