Brazilian airline GOL Linhas Aereas Inteligentes announced that it plans to enter into a codeshare agreement with Portuguese carrier TAP Portugal.  The agreement is subject to pending government approval.

Under the planned agreement, TAP will be allowed to place its code on GOL-operated flights. Additionally, members of both GOL’s Smiles and TAP’s Victoria loyalty programs will be able to earn and redeem miles on all eligible flights operated by both airlines.

GOL currently offers approximately 910 daily flights to 65 destinations in South America, the United States, and the Caribbean.  The airline was founded in 2000, and commenced operations in 2001.

TAP Portugal was founded in 1945, and is the national flag carrier of Portugal.  The airline is a member of Star Alliance, and currently offers service to 78 destinations in 34 countries, including 74 weekly flights from Portugal to various destinations throughout Brazil.
