Bentley Motors announced plans to introduce a plug-in hybrid sedan at the Beijing International Automotive Exhibition later this month.

The Bentley Hybrid Concept will be based on the automaker’s flagship Mulsanne model and will be capable of driving up to 31 miles (50 kilometers) on electric power alone.  According to the Crewe-based automaker, the powertrain will offer a power increase of up to 25% as well as a 70% reduction in CO2 emissions.

Bentley said that the concept vehicle is a preview of the technology that will be available in an all-new sport utility vehicle that will be available in 2017.  It plans to offer a minimum of 90% of its models with a plug-in hybrid option by the end of the decade.

The concept car features the extensive use of copper as a styling element, with copper details on the headlamps, radiator shell bezel, and badges, as well as in the interior on switch bezels and instruments.  The interior will feature copper cross-stitching on the Mulliner Driving Specification diamond-quilted interior.
