Aeromexico Reports Increase in March Traffic

Aeromexico announced operating results for March 2014.  The Mexico City-based airline said that its total traffic for the month increased by 19.6% year-over-year, while its total capacity increased by 10.5%.

On the domestic side of operations, the airline saw 861 million revenue passenger kilometers, or RPKs, in system traffic, up from March of 2013’s 699 million RPKs, a 23.1% increase.  In international markets, Aeromexico experienced a 17.6% increase in system traffic, up to 1.428 billion from last year’s 1.215 billion.

The airline’s capacity, measured in available seat kilometers or ASKs, increased by 8.0% domestically, up to 1.095 billion from last year’s 1.014 billion.  Internationally, the carrier reported 1.771 billion ASKs, an increase of 12.2% from last year’s 1.578 billion.

Meanwhile, the airline reported an increase in load factor as well, with domestic numbers up 9.7 percentage points to 78.8% this March.  The airline’s international load factor also increased, up 3.3 percentage points from last year’s 77.3%, for this year’s number of 80.7%.  Overall, the airline saw a total increase of 5.9 percentage points year-over-year, up to 79.9% from last year’s 74.1%
