SriLankan Airlines to Join Oneworld in May

SriLankan Airlines announced it will become a member of oneworld alliance on May 1 of this year.

Once the airline joins, Platinum members will hold Emerald status in the oneworld program, while Gold members will hold Sapphire status and FlySmiLes Classic members will hold Ruby status.

In addition, members of the airline’s FlySmiles frequent flyer program will be able to earn and redeem miles on other oneworld member carrier-operated flights, while top tier members will have access to the alliance’s airport lounges.  In addition, members of other oneworld member airlines’ frequent flyer programs will be able to earn and redeem miles on SriLankan flights.

Oneworld alliance currently serves nearly 1,000 destinations in 150 countries. The addition of SriLankan Airlines will add two more destinations to the oneworld global network, the Hambantota International Airport in Sri Lanka and the Tiruchirappalli Airport in India.

SriLankan Airlines is the national flag carrier of Sri Lanka.  It currently serves 65 destinations in over 35 countries around the world.
