Southwest to Expand Service to Mexico, Bahamas
Southwest Airlines announced it will launch service to both the Pacific and Caribbean coasts of Mexico later this year. In addition, the carrier said it will begin offering new flights to the Bahamas in August.
On August 10, Southwest will launch daily service between Cancun and both Atlanta and Baltimore, as well as Saturday-only service to Milwaukee. The airline will also begin service between San Jose del Cabo/Los Cabos and Santa Ana/Orange County, California on that same date.
Additionally, the carrier will begin daily service from Denver to Cancun, as well as once-weekly service to San Jose del Cabo/Los Cabos in October.
Southwest also announced it will begin offering one weekly flight between Nassau, Bahamas and Atlanta on August 10. The service will operate on Saturdays.
The new Southwest routes are currently operated by its subsidiary AirTran, and the transfer to Southwest is part of the airline’s consolidation of all AirTran routes under the Southwest brand. AirTran will continue to operate the routes until Southwest takes them over later this year.
