SkyTeam announced that Garuda Indonesia has joined as its 20th member.  Garuda is the second member of the alliance from Southeast Asia.

As a new member of SkyTeam, the Indonesian airline will begin offering SkyPriority privileges to its first, Elite Plus, and business class customers. The airline’s frequent flyers will now also be able to earn and redeem points when flying with other SkyTeam member airlines, while the passengers of other SkyTeam members will be able to earn and redeem points on Garuda Indonesia flights.

The airline’s membership in the alliance will also add 40 new destinations to SkyTeam’s global network, and expand the alliance’s presence in Southeast Asia and Australia. The move is expected to help open up Indonesia’s business and tourism destinations to a larger number of travelers.

SkyTeam currently operates over 15,700 flights a day to 1,064 destinations in 178 countries.
