Vienna: City of Dreams Festival to Open Thursday

Carnegie Hall announced that its Vienna: City of Dreams Festival, a three-week-long lineup of Vienna-related and inspired art and music events taking place in New York City, will kick off this week with the exhibit Gustav Klimt and the Viennese Secession, followed by the 59th Viennese Opera Ball Friday night .

Beginning this Thursday, February 20, through March 16, more than 40 events paying homage to the Austrian city will take place throughout a number of different venues in the Big Apple.

Musical highlights include Vienna’s Musical Production During the Great War, Chamber Music with the Talea Ensemble, and Vienna’s Musical Giants: Treasures from the Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde, as well as performances by the Vienna State Opera and Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra.

In addition to the spotlighted music events, the City of Dreams Festival will also feature art exhibits, a film series, panel discussions, and a Viennese Opera Ball.

Venues hosting the exhibits, lectures, and performances include Carnegie Hall, the Waldorf Astoria, the Paley Center, the Rose Museum, MoMA, the Jewish Museum, and more than a dozen others citywide.  The complete schedule of events can be found online here.
