United’s new recyclable cup

United Airlines announced it will introduce a new eco-friendly coffee cup to its United Club beverage service this month.  The airline will begin using the new cups on United flights beginning in the middle of next month.

The new cups, called InCycle cups, are fully recyclable and made from up to 50% recycled materials.  Four and a half of the new InCycle cups can be made from a single recycled water bottle through a waterless and additive-free process.

The cups are manufactured by MicroGreen, a Washington-based technology company.  They will replace the Styrofoam hot beverage cups that the airline currently uses, which are non-recyclable.

In environmental efforts throughout the past six years, United has recycled 23.5 million pounds of aluminum cans, paper, and plastic from its facilities and onboard-generated waste.
