Canadian North announced it will expand its passenger and cargo service this year.

On June 20, the airline will introduce seasonal, non-stop flights between Iqaluit and Halifax, Nova Scotia, with same-plane service available to St. John’s, Newfoundland.  Flights will operate every Friday until September 5, using Boeing 737-300 aircraft.  Depending on demand, more flights could be added or the season could be extended.

Flights from St. John’s will depart at 12:00 p.m. and arrive in Halifax at 1:15 p.m. Flights will then depart Halifax at 2:00 p.m. and arrive in Iqaluit at 4:15 p.m.

From Iqaluit, flights will depart at 5:15 p.m. and arrive in Halifax at 9:30 p.m. Flights from Halifax to St. John’s will then depart at 10:15 p.m. and arrive at 12:25 a.m.

Canadian North will also reintroduce a cargo aircraft from Ottawa to Iqaluit on Wednesdays starting March 19.  The Cargojet-operated Boeing 727-200 will carry a capacity of 48,000 lbs (21,772 kg).

In addition, Canadian North will allow two free luggage bags of 70 lbs (33 kg) each for all passengers. On smaller aircraft, the allowance is two free bags up to 50 lbs (23 kg) each.
