“If I blindfolded you… and took you to LaGuardia Airport in New York, you’d think, ‘I must be in some third-world country.’”

That pronouncement was made by U.S. Vice President Joe Biden, who was the latest frequent traveler to comment on conditions at one of America’s busiest airports.

Biden said he has traveled over 800,000 miles since taking office.

During a speech in Philadelphia on Thursday, the vice president ushered in Amtrak’s newest locomotive.  At the event, he also took the opportunity to lay waste to America’s infrastructure, highlighting the “third-world” condition of New York’s LaGuardia.

Biden ranted, calling American airports an embarrassment compared to other airports around the world, citing Hong Kong’s new and modern airport.

The comments from the vice president follow New York City governor Andrew Cuomo’s announcement two weeks ago that the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, the joint venture responsible for the city’s airports and other transportation methods, would oversee a $3.6 billion overhaul of the verbally abused LaGuardia.

Cuomo was present with Biden for the bashing, and hinted that the changes are imminent.  “Frankly, they (LaGuardia and JFK airports) have not been redeveloped to keep pace with the best international airports.  And that’s something that we’re going to attend to.”
