Travel Agents Report Price Discrepancies in American Airlines-US Airways Codeshare Tickets
A group representing travel agents in the U.S. reported significant price discrepancies for some codeshare flights between American Airlines and US Airways. For some flights, the price has varied by more than double.
The group, the American Society of Travel Agents, represents 80% of all travel sold in the U.S.
The problems stem from the different technology platforms that the two airlines use. An American Airlines told the association that the price discrepancies will cease after the airlines adopt “common technology platforms.”
Travel agents as well as consumers were advised to check prices carefully. “Since a consumer using the Internet on her own may not discover the discrepancy, it is especially important that travel agents remain vigilant about these price discrepancies and act to protect their clients from overpaying,” said Zane Kirby, the group’s president.
