Southwest Airlines announced it officially joined the TSA’s PreCheck trusted traveler program.  Select members of Southwest’s Rapid Rewards program will be able to use TSA PreCheck security checkpoint lanes.

Southwest will be inviting select members of its Rapid Rewards frequent flyer program who also meet certain TSA criteria to opt into the program.  Selected eligible passengers will see “TSA PRE” printed on their boarding passes.

Passengers who are members of other trusted traveler programs such as Global Entry are also eligible for selection for TSA’s PreCheck program.

TSA PreCheck is a risk-based pre-screening initiative, in which travelers are able to volunteer information about themselves that may make them eligible for an expedited screening experience.  Those who qualify for the program are allowed to leave their shoes, light outerwear, and belts on, as well as keep their laptops and liquids and gels inside their carry-ons.

PreCheck is currently available at nearly 100 airports in the U.S., including Los Angeles International Airport, San Diego International Airport, Orlando International Airport, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, Chicago O’Hare International Airport, Boston Logan International Airport, and New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport.
