LAX Gunman Kills 1, Injures 7 in Shooting Melee

One TSA employee was killed and at least seven people were injured in a shooting at Terminal 3 of Los Angeles International Airport on Friday morning. The gunman was injured in an engagement with police, and is currently in custody.
Around 9:20 a.m., the suspect, identified as Paul Ciancia, 23, pulled out an assault rifle from a bag he was carrying and opened fire as he entered Terminal 3 on the ground floor. The gunman then ran up an escalator to a TSA screening area and continued to discharge his weapon.
Airport police engaged in a gunfight with the suspect until he was subdued and taken into custody.
All flights out of the airport have been grounded, although some flights that were already in the air were allowed to land.
The TSA employee who was killed was at the terminal’s security checkpoint examining tickets and passenger identification.

An earlier version of this article did not reflect the fact that a TSA employee had been killed during the gunfire. In addition, seven people were injured in the shooting, not three, and the gunman was injured before being taken into custody.
