KnowRoaming’s SIM sticker

KnowRoaming, a company that develops SIM technology, announced the KnowRoaming sticker on Monday.  The sticker will provide local calling and texting rates for people traveling internationally.

The company supplies a small sticker that adheres to an unlocked phone’s SIM card, allowing the phone to connect to local mobile networks.  KnowRoaming says the cost of using its system to make and receive calls while travelling abroad will be 90% less than roaming rates.  The sticker remains dormant until it and the phone leaves its home country, at which point it activates itself and emulates a local SIM, while retaining the phone’s original number.

KnowRoaming’s free app can be used to manage an account and track usage and savings.  The service will be available on iOS, Android, Windows Phone, and Blackberry mobile platforms.  The service is prepaid and can be topped-up via the app.  In addition, the credit balance never expires and can be used at any time.

The KnowRoaming sticker is now available for pre-order on KnowRoaming’s website.  The sticker and applicator start at $35, although multi-packs for families or businesses are available for a reduced cost.  The first 500 stickers will ship in December and any additional orders will ship in February of 2014.
