Boingo announced that it entered into an agreement to acquire Advanced Wireless Group, a large airport Wi-Fi provider in the U.S.  The acquisition is subject to customary closing conditions, and is expected to be completed later this year.

Advanced Wireless Group currently operates public Wi-Fi in 17 airports in the U.S., including Los Angeles International Airport, Miami International Airport, Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport, and Boston’s Logan International Airport.

With the acquisition, Boingo will operate public Wi-Fi services in approximately 60% of the top 50 airports in North America, and over 40% of the top airports in the world.

Earlier this month, Boingo announced it would begin rolling out Boingo Passport, a new network of advanced Wi-Fi hotspots, in the airports it serves, beginning with Chicago O’Hare.
