Aircell, a Gogo company, introduced a new in-flight calling and texting service called Gogo Text & Talk, part of Gogo Biz.  The service allows flyers to use their own smartphones and mobile numbers to complete calls and texts in the air.

Gogo Text & Talk operates via Wi-Fi networks rather than cellular.  Users can make calls and texts through Gogo’s free app as opposed to using an auto-attendant, two-step dialing, or call-forwarding protocol.

Gogo Biz voice plans start at $134.95 a month, providing 60 minutes of talk time.  Additional time is $1.50 per minute, and there is an extra charge for data.  All charges are in addition to normal carrier fees.

The service will be available October 1, initially for iPhone 4, 4S, and 5 models.  Select Android devices will be supported beginning November 1.
