Tanglewood Announces 2013 Summer Schedule
Tanglewood, the summer home of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, located in the Berkshire Hills of western Massachusetts, released its 2013 season schedule.
Over the course of the summer, Tanglewood will hold events ranging from concerts and recitals to wine tastings and exclusive dinners.
The season kicks off on June 21 with performances by Grammy- and Oscar-winning singer/songwriter Melissa Etheridge and special guest Eric Hutchinson. Another highlight will be the Boston Symphony Orchestra’s opening night on July 5.
Bare Naked Ladies will perform on July 23, and the Tanglewood Music Center performing with the Mark Morris Dance Group will wrap up the month with their performance on July 31.
In August, the Goat Rodeo Sessions takes place on the 15th, with the ensemble of cellist Yo Yo Ma, bassist Edgar Meyer, mandolinist Chris Thile, fiddler Stuart Duncan, and singer Aoife O’Donovan. The Tanglewood Wine & Food Classic, August 15 through 18, will consist of seminars, celebrity chef dinners, food and wine tasting, and cooking demonstrations.
Performances at Tanglewood started in 1936, when the Boston Symphony Orchestra first performed at the estate. The venue was named after the book Tanglewood Tales by Nathaniel Hawthorne, who wrote it while staying at a cottage in the region.
