Ritz-Carlton announced that the Ritz-Carlton, Kyoto will open in Japan on February 7 next year.  The hotel will be located on the Kamogawa River, close to Kyoto’s downtown areas including Gion and Kawaramachi-dori, the city’s shopping and entertainment district.

The property will have 136 guestrooms.  The rooms will be an average of 50 square meters (538 square feet) and sport views of the river as well as the Higashiyama Mountains.

The hotel itself is built around a traditional Meiji house and courtyard that the architects have preserved within the overall structure.  The hotel’s design is in keeping with Kyoto traditions and culture.

The Ritz-Carlton, Kyoto will have four restaurants, as well as several banquet and meeting rooms.  A spa and other recreational facilities are also planned.

Kyoto, which served as the imperial capital of Japan for over 1,000 years, is known for its temples and parks.   It is home to 17 Unesco World Heritage sites.
