Oneworld announced a new service, oneworld events. The new offering provides benefits for organizers and attendees of conventions, conferences, exhibitions, and special events.  Requests for the service are accepted as early as five years in advance, and up to three months before the event date.

Oneworld events offers event organizers a centralized process for working with members of the alliance as well as the ability to earn and redeem credits for travel on participating oneworld member airlines.  In addition, the service provides online access to real-time management reports and access to a oneworld promotional toolkit meant to increase attendee awareness.

For attendees of events, oneworld events offers benefits including discounts on flights for attendees and a travel companion on oneworld member airlines and a booking tool that displays the most convenient flight as well as multiple fare options from various departure points to the event.

Oneworld is one of three major airline alliances.  It was founded by American Airlines, British Airways, Canadian Airlines (which left after its merger with Air Canada), Cathay Pacific, and Qantas.

The alliance’s membership is growing.  Malaysia Airlines became a member earlier this year and Qatar Airways, currently a member elect, is expected to become full member by early 2014.  Sri Lankan Airlines is also a member elect and TAM Airlines and LAN Colombia have announced the two will leave Star Alliance and join oneworld in 2014.
