Kempinski Hotel Airport Munich, Germany – Review

The Kempinski Airport München hotel has 30 meeting rooms of varying sizes thatDSC_0079 can accommodate up to 1,000 attendees, all flooded with natural light.  Indeed, my first stay at the hotel was a decade ago for a two-day conference and many people simply flew in and out for the meeting.  The rooms are replete with multimedia technology, including sophisticated sound and lighting systems.

A business center with a full-time staff member is located on the ground floor.

My one gripe was with Internet service.  While it was free (because I am a member of the Global Hotel Alliance guest loyalty program, a collection of 320 luxury hotels in 57 countries across the globe), it was also slow and pokey.  The front desk staff said that they were unaware of any problems, but given that it was late at night and I had been able to send and receive e-mail, I declined to call technical support.  For non-members, Internet access costs €25 .

DSC_0092The hotel offers a bountiful buffet breakfast with freshly-cooked egg dishes in the aptly-named Restaurant Charles Lindbergh.  While I only had breakfast here on my most recent stay (a nice assortment including Bircher müesli, a croissant, some cold cuts and cheese, and two sunny-side eggs), I have had both lunch and dinner at the restaurant several times and the food is quite good.  The Lobby Café, in the middle of the glass atrium, is a great place to sit down and chat over coffee, tea, and pastries.

While the Kempinski is an excellent choice for the business traveler catching an early morning flight (admittedly, I consider 9:35 a.m. early), that’s not the only reason for staying there.  It’s a wonderful hotel in its own right and Munich’s city center is easily available by S-Bahn in 38 minutes.  If your plans call for you to be north of the city, it’s a great starting point as well. And if you’re looking for a unique and accessible place for a meeting or conference, it’s an excellent and convenient alternative, especially if your attendees will be coming from across the globe.
