Fairmont Launches Sustainability Partnership
Fairmont Hotels announced the launch of its Sustainability Partnership. The new program is intended to provide greater balance around Fairmont’s environmental, social, and economic priorities.
Fairmont has been actively engaged in environmental activities on a corporate-wide basis since the launch of its Green Partnership two decades ago.
As part of the program, four pillars were created to achieve long-term change: Responsible Business, Ecosystem, Environment, and Engagement. Each pillar includes ideas and priorities to help facilitate change.
Responsible Business incorporates governance and accountability, and as part of this pillar, Fairmont introduced a centralized Data Management System that includes real-time monitoring, and measurement and reporting on sustainability contributions. Also part of this pillar are hotel Greet Teams, which will be renamed Sustainability Teams, and whose focus is to drive innovation and achieve change at individual properties.
The Ecosystem pillar includes design and construction, procurement and biodiversity, and integrating sustainable practices into new hotels. In the Environmental pillar, the focus is on reducting waste generation, carbon emissions, and energy and water consumption.
Engagement includes guests, communities, partners, and colleagues. Fairmont recently introduced the Fairmont CAREs grant program, which provides seed funding to hotel-identified organizations.
