Alaska Airlines to Install New Seats, Personal Power Outlets on Aircraft
All of Alaska’s 737-800, -900, and -900ER aircraft will be outfitted with Recaro seats that have a slimmer design and offer more personal space. In addition, every seat onboard these aircraft will have its own 110-volt power outlet, located on the seatback in front of passengers.
As part of the upgrade, the airline will also install additional seats to the aircraft. Six seats will be added to Alaska’s 737-800s, while nine will be added to its 737-900s (none will be added to the 737-900ERs). After the additional seats are installed, the airline’s 737-800s will have 163 seats (16 in first class and 147 in the main cabin), while its 737-900s will be able to accommodate 181 passengers (16 in first class and 165 in the main cabin).
In addition, the airline said it is nearing a decision on an enhanced in-flight entertainment system that will allow passengers to stream movies, television shows, and other programming from an onboard server to their Wi-Fi enabled devices.
