WELLNESS

The well-equipped and fairly large health club (over 10,000 square feet or 929 square meters) DSC_0600boasts a 42-foot (12.8-meter) indoor pool, a large whirlpool, and locker rooms with showers and sauna.  The wood-paneled gym offers cardio equipment and a decent variety of machines that more than met my workout requirements.

The hotel provides guests with towels and robes, bottled water, newspapers, and pool toys

Seattle is also a great city to run in or just walk around in, and the hotel’s location, near all major attractions including the Pike Place Market, the Space Needle, and the Seattle Art Museum, encourages the pedestrian in all of us.

DINING

Before I even left on my trip, several people told me not to miss DSC_0528 breakfast at the hotel’s restaurant, the Georgian.  I’m glad I followed their advice.  The elegant surroundings of what is one of Seattle’s favorite restaurants didn’t disappoint.  The menu was all encompassing and my request for carrot juice with a splash of apple juice was met with a look that more said “we do this all the time” as opposed to “you want what again?”

The fresh baked croissant and muffins were excellent and the food from the kitchen, including eggs and sausages, were delicious.

Unfortunately, my schedule didn’t allow me to have dinner at the Georgian (a pity, as the menu looked magnificent), nor at Shuckers, a casual oyster bar, but I did have a drink at the Terrace piano bar before going out and it was a great place to sit back and unwind.

BOTTOM LINE

For the business traveler looking for the classic grand hotel with excellent services and superb amenities, this is it.
