Starwood Capital Group announced that it will launch a new brand of hotels, Baccarat Hotels & Resorts.  Over the next two years, two Baccarat properties will open: the Baccarat Hotel & Residences New York, and the Baccarat Hotel Rabbat, Morocco.

The brand’s flagship property, the Baccarat Hotel & Residences New York, will be located near Fifth Avenue on 53rd street, across from the Museum of Modern Art.  The 50-story hotel will include 114 guestrooms, 26 of which will be suites, and 61 private one- to four-bedroom residences.

The hotel will also have an indoor pool, fitness center, and bar and restaurant, although details have not yet been announced with respect to the restaurant’s concept and menu.  Reservations can be made beginning in March of this year, although the hotel will not open until 2014.

Originally created by decree from King Louis XV of France, Baccarat is a crystal company based in the town of Baccarat in the Alsace-Lorraine region of France.  The design of the Baccarat Hotel & Residences New York will seek to build on the company’s nearly 250-year-old history.
