Etihad, Garuda Indonesia Announce Additional Codeshare Flights, Reciprocal Frequent Flyer Benefits
Etihad and Garuda Indonesia announced an expansion of their codeshare agreement. Under the new agreement, each airline can place its code on flights of the other to destinations in Indonesia, Europe, Singapore, and the Middle East, as well as Australia later this year.
Specifically, Etihad is now able to place its code on Garuda flights between Jakarta and Singapore, Bali, Manado, Surabaya, Balikpapan, and Makassar, as well as on flights between Abu Dhabi and Amsterdam.
In addition, Garuda Indonesia will place its code on Etihad flights to Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Munich, Bahrain, and Brussels. The five new additions bring the total number of codeshare flights for Garuda to ten.
In June, Garuda will begin service between Jakarta and Perth. Etihad will be able to place its code on these flights as well.
Members of both Etihad’s and Garuda’s loyalty programs (Etihad Guest and Garuda Frequent Flyer) will be able to earn and redeem miles on the new codeshare flights. The two airlines are working together to introduce a reciprocal system in the future, wherein members of each loyalty program can earn and redeem miles on every flight of the other carrier, as opposed to solely codeshare flights.
