Delta Air Lines announced it will begin to offer nonstop service between Seattle, Washington and Tokyo International Airport (Haneda).  The new flights will begin on June 1, 2013.  Delta already operates nonstop flights to Amsterdam, Beijing, Osaka, Paris, and Tokyo (Narita) from Seattle.

The new Seattle-Haneda flight will feature a Boeing 767-300 with the airline’s new lie-flat seats in its BusinessElite business-class cabin.

In addition, Delta said it will expand its Seattle-Narita service starting on June 1, and that it will operate Boeing 747-400 aircraft with the new lie-flat business-class seats on the this route starting at that time.

Up until this point, Seattle has not had nonstop service to Haneda.  Haneda is much closer to downtown Tokyo than Narita and is preferred by many business travelers as a result.

Update 1: An earlier version of this article incorrectly indicated that the SEA-HND route would be operated using Boeing 747 aircraft.  The article has been revised to indicate that Delta plans to operate that aircraft on the SEA-NRT route.
