Air China announced that it will begin nonstop service between Chengdu and Frankfurt on May 19, 2013.  The new service will operate three times a week, using an Airbus A330-200 aircraft.

Flights will depart from Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport at 1:30 p.m. and arrive at Frankfurt International Airport at 6:10 p.m. the same day, on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays.  Flights from Frankfurt to Chengdu will depart at 2:00 p.m. and arrive at 5:40 a.m. the next day.

The Chinese city will be the third in mainland China to have direct access to Frankfurt.  Flights will be approximately ten hours, a decrease from the 15 hour flight time (including transfers) that passengers currently experience when traveling from Chengdu and other Southwestern Chinese regions to Germany.
