Malaysia Joins Oneworld, Signs Codeshare with American
The oneworld alliance announced that Malaysia Airlines has officially joined as a member. Malaysia, based in Kuala Lumpur, serves more than 60 destinations in 30 countries across the globe, with a focus on Southeast Asia.
Malaysia Airlines is the government-owned flag carrier of Malaysia and has its primary hub at Kuala Lumpur International Airport, with additional hubs at Kota Kinabalu and Kuching. It operates flights in Southeast Asia, East Asia, South Asia, the Middle East and between Europe and Australasia, as well as transpacific flights from Kuala Lumpur to Los Angeles by way of Tokyo.
American Airlines AAdvantage members and members of other oneworld frequent flyer programs including British Airways’ Executive Club can earn and redeem miles and awards when flying on Malaysia. American is offering its customers double miles on Malaysia flights from February 15 to April 15.
In addition, American and Malaysia announced a codeshare agreement. Once approved, the agreement will cover non-stop flights on Malaysia from Kuala Lumpur and its destinations in Southeast Asia as well as flights to both airlines’ European gateway cities such as London and Paris. The codeshare goes into effect on March 1, 2013.
