American Airlines, Qatar Airways Sign Codeshare Agreement
American Airlines and Qatar Airways announced a codeshare agreement between the two airlines. The agreement will allow each airline to place its codes on select flights of the other in Europe, the U.S., and the Middle East.
Passengers will be able to book Qatar Airways flights from the U.S. to Doha with American Airlines flight numbers. In addition, the codeshare agreement covers both carriers’ flights operating out of European gateways such as London and Paris. Additionally, Qatar Airways will be able to place its code on American Airlines flights connecting within the U.S., while American Airlines will be able to place its code on Qatar Airways flights departing from Doha to destinations such as Dubai and New Delhi.
“This new codeshare relationship with Qatar is another example of how American is focused on building its global network through closer coordination with its alliance partners around the world,” said Kurt Stache, American’s vice president for strategic alliances. Qatar Airways is in the process of joining the oneworld alliance.
Qatar Airways serves 120 destinations in 70 countries in the Middle East, Europe, Africa, North and South America, Asia and Australia. American Airlines serves 260 airports in more than 50 countries worldwide.
American Airlines AAdvantage members will be able to earn miles on the codeshare flights. Tickets for the flights go on sale beginning February 10, 2013, for travel beginning February 26.
