American is introducing a separate premium economy cabin on the 777-300ER. It is more private, with only 30 seats, and the seats themselves are arranged in a 3-3-3 configuration (main cabin seating is in a 3-4-3 configuration).

Each seat is 18” wide (compared to 17” in the main cabin) and, depending on location, has a pitch of 36”.  The recline is 24º, the same as in coach.

Each passenger gets a 9” monitor for in-flight entertainment as well as a USB port and AC power outlet.  In-flight entertainment options are the same as in first- and business-class.

The AA 777-300ER main cabin has 214 seats arranged in a 3-4-3 configuration (by comparison, American Airline’s joint business partner, Japan Airlines, has its main cabin seats on newer 777-300ER aircraft arranged in a 3-3-3 configuration with slightly greater width per seat).

Each of the 135 seats is 17” wide and has a seat pitch of 31”.  Passengers get a 9” monitor along with an AC power outlet and USB port.  Compared to AA’s fleet of 777-200s, passengers have a little less room as pitch was 32” and width was 18-18.5”.  My own testing, however, showed the new seat design to be comfortable and I definitely found I had plenty of knee room (American says the seats have more knee room than the prior-generation coach seats).

American Airlines, which used the slogan More Room Throughout Coach in the early 2000s, is listening to its customers as the new 777-300ER is truly industry-leading in seating, personal space, and passenger comfort.

Frequent flyers often complain about a lack of personal space in the aircraft; indeed, in our annual Frequent Business Traveler Air Travel Pet Peeve Surveys, a lack of personal space is one of the top peeves cited. This includes insufficient legroom, passengers who recline into one’s space, and seatmates who occupy more than their fair share.

The new 777-300ER gives 42% of the airplane’s passengers substantially more room while adding a more spacious environment, international Wi-Fi, electrical outlets at every seat, and more comfortable seating throughout the cabin.
