Virgin Atlantic has announced plans to launch short-haul flights within the United Kingdom starting in the Spring of 2013.  This will add 24 daily domestic flights to the airline’s network.

Six of the new flights will be between London Heathrow and Edinburgh, and three will be between London Heathrow and Aberdeen, Scotland.  These flights are set to begin in April 2013.  In addition, three daily roundtrip flights between London Heathrow and Manchester will be offered beginning March 31, 2013.

The airline has signed a letter of intent with Aer Lingus to supply the crew and Airbus aircraft, which will be branded as Virgin, for the new routes.

British Airways currently has a monopoly on all three of the routes, so Virgin will be the first competitor to offer service on these routes.  Virgin Atlantic expects that the new flights will create over 150 new jobs.  Tickets for the new routes can be purchased starting December 19, 2012.
