South African Airways (SAA) and Air Canada have announced a codeshare agreement.  Under the agreement, SAA will be able to place its code on various Air Canada-operated flights from Canada, while Air Canada will be allowed to place its code on various SAA services from South Africa.

South African Airlines will codeshare on Air Canada services between London and Vancouver, London and Toronto, and New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport and Toronto.  In exchange, Air Canada will have its code on SAA-operated services between London and Johannesburg, JFK and Johannesburg, and Johannesburg and Cape Town.  In addition, U.S. authorities have approved connections through New York, which will be added in the near future.

Customers will be able to earn and redeem frequent flyer miles on both of the airlines, as both are members of Star Alliance.  In addition, travelers connecting between the two carriers in London will be able to book a single itinerary.
