South African Airways announced the wines it will serve aboard its aircraft in 2013. A panel of 12 judges tasted the 1,030 wines that were submitted, and chose four trophy wines to be served aboard the airline’s flights.

The featured white wine will be the Stellenrust Chenin Blanc 2012. It has a powerful citrus and peach flavor, with a touch of spice and a hint of burnt match stick. The second wine chosen was the Cederberg Cabernet Sauvignon 2009. This red wine has a concentrated blackcurrant and cassis flavor, along with a slight mint undertone and smokey element.

The Anura Brut Chardonnay/Pinot Noir 2009 was also chosen, as the Methode Cap Classic, or South African sparkling wine. KWV Tawny Port N/V is the fourth wine that will be served by the airline. It has a strong essence of figs and orange zest, with a dry finish.

The four wines will be served on all of South African Airways’ domestic, regional, and international flights, as well as in the airline’s business class lounges.
