Lufthansa Takes Delivery of New Boeing 747 for Los Angeles-Frankfurt Route

Lufthansa has taken delivery of its fourth Boeing 747-8 Intercontinental aircraft.  The Queen of the Skies, as the 747 is known, will enter into service on December 10, 2012, flying between Frankfurt and Los Angeles.

Flights will depart from Frankfurt at 10:00 a.m. and arrive in Los Angeles at 12:40 p.m., and depart from Los Angeles at 2:50 p.m. and arrive in Frankfurt at 10:45 a.m. the next day.  The aircraft includes Lufthansa’s new Business Class cabin, which is equipped with lie-flat seats that measure 6.5 feet in length.

The Boeing 747-8, which is the longest passenger aircraft in the world, features newly-developed wingtips, along with GEnx-2B engines that improve fuel efficiency by 15% per passenger.  The aircraft’s noise emissions are also reduced by 30%.

Lufthansa is scheduled to take delivery of another five Boeing 747-8 Intercontinental jets in 2013, and by 2015, the airline’s fleet is expected to include 20 of the aircraft.
