LOT Polish Airlines has taken delivery of its first Boeing 787 Dreamliner. The carrier is the first European airline to take delivery of the new aircraft.

In December, LOT will operate the aircraft on short-haul flights over Europe as part of a crew familiarization program.  The airline will introduce the 787 on its long-haul passenger service between Chicago and Warsaw in January 2013, and will also use it to operate routes from Warsaw to New York, Toronto, and Beijing.

LOT’s 787s will be configured with 18 Elite Club (business class) seats, 21 PremierClub (premium economy) seats, and 213 economy class seats.  The aircraft is composed of light-weight composites, and is the first mid-sized plane capable of flying long-range routes.

The delivery was celebrated by senior LOT and Boeing executives, along with Polish and U.S. government officials, at the Future of Flight Aviation Center near Boeing’s 787 final assembly plant in Everret, Washington.  LOT’s 787 is the first of eight Dreamliners that the Polish airline has on order.
