American Airlines will give members of its AAdvantage frequent flier program double elite-qualifying miles, or EQMs, and points for trips flown from November 1 through December 31 as part of an apology for leaving passengers inconvenienced by flight disruptions as pilots, in the midst of a contract dispute with the airline, kept planes grounded with numerous maintenance requests.

In order to take receive double EQMs, you have to register at American’s website, using promo code AATHX.

In announcing the offer and making an apology, American wryly commented, “Our recent operating performance was not up to our standards.”

The delays started after a federal bankruptcy court judge voided the contract between the airline and its pilots.   Operations returned to normal after American agreed to a new round of negotiations with the union.  The union vehemently denied that it was behind any of the delays.
