Trump Ocean Club, Panama City, Panama – Hotel Review
Think Central America… the Panama Canal… and Panama City… and it’s unlikely the first name that comes to mind is Trump. Yet, the Trump Ocean Club International Hotel & Tower turns out to be the newest, most modern, and sophisticated business traveler destination in the region.
The hotel is located in Punta Pacifica, a rapidly rising residential enclave near Tocumen International Airport and close to Via España, Palacio de las Garzas and Panama Old Cathedral. Also close by are the National Theater and Independence Square. The hotel sits on the Bay of Panama.
When our car pulled up to the hotel, we were greeted and welcomed into the arrival lobby, which is graced by a massive sculpture by renowned Colombian figurative artist Fernando Botero. Six public elevators wisk arrivals to the hotel’s Sky Lobby on the 15th floor where the hotel begins (the 1st through 12th floors are residential properties that are for sale; in between floors feature restaurants, health club and other facilities). Check-in was efficient and professional. Four glass panoramic elevators travel to the guest floors which consist of 369 rooms and suites. The hotel, the tallest building in Latin America, rises 70-stories above the neighborhood.
Our room, located on the 30th floor facing the bay, was very spacious and the height of modernity. On the right, there was a free standing bathtub with a wrap around curtain available for privacy. The water closet and shower rooms were enclosed cubicles with clear and frosted glass with marble surfaces and recessed lighting. Trump vanities adorned the tub, twin sinks, and shower areas. Plush towels and robes, bright lighting and other thoughtful touches made this a highly functional yet luxurious bathroom suite within a room.
Our king bed had a firm mattress and high end linen selection; it was surrounded by ample bed lighting and provided controls for the room’s lighting. A chaise lounge, LG widescreen HD TV, minibar, ample dresser space and a long terrace raised the comfort level and made our stay that more enjoyable. The Trump tower, which may have offered long range vistas, is currently being eclipsed by another residential tower rising next door.
