Tomtom Navigation for Android

TomTom announced the release of TomTom Navigation for Android. The new app for Android smartphones is designed specifically for drivers, with updated TomTom maps that are updated quarterly and stored locally for offline use. The company previously released an iPhone version of the app.

Drivers using the app receive free lifetime map updates, search results tailored for driving, multitasking to allow use of other phone features without interrupting turn-by-turn prompts, spoken street names, and extra-specific directions for lane changes in difficult junctions. The app also includes optional in-app purchases that include live traffic updates and speed camera alerts.

TomTom also offers a hands-free car kit that integrates with the new app by connecting to the car via Bluetooth. The phone dock features a two-watt speaker to boost the audio to make the turn-by-turn navigation clearer.
