InterContinental Miami Completing $30 Million Renovation
The InterContinental Miami hotel will debut a series of improvements in late October. The $30 million upgrades will include fully-renovated suites, a new restaurant, and a 19-story “digital canvas.”
A Strategic Hotels & Resorts flagship property, the 34-story hotel is remodeling all 641 guestrooms. The rooms will receive new carpeting, furniture, bedding and linens, bathroom fixtures, wallpaper, and motorized window treatments. The hotel’s corridors and elevator landings are also getting a makeover.
The new entrance area will feature customizable lighting and sound elements, as well as a Times Square-style LED marquee. The hotel’s lobby will feature 18 LCD screens streaming content that will include digital works by local artists and information about Miami-area attractions. There will also be touchscreen coffee tables that will allow guests to plan local outings, order cocktails, and book dining reservations and spa appointments. A live camera feed will also display real-time video of Biscayne Bay.
Accompanying with the remodeling is a new restaurant called Toro Toro. Located on the main lobby level, the Pan-Latin restaurant, under the direction of chef Richard Sandoval, will feature rodizio selections, various small plates, and steaks served a la carte. The restaurant will also have a bar which will emphasize cocktails made with ultra-premium Latin spirits.
The hotel’s “digital canvas” will be composed of thousands of LED lights, and will project digital images and animations on the east and west facing facades of the hotel. The display will be visible for miles, and will highlight current affairs and community events.
