Starwood Opens New Resort in Sanya, China

Starwood Hotels & Resorts has announced the opening of the Royal Begonia, in Sanya, China. A Luxury Collection resort, the hotel is located on the southern tropical island of Hainan, and is the brand’s third property in China. A fourth Luxury Collection hotel, Twelve at Hengshan, Shanghai, is set to open in November 2012.

The Royal Begonia occupies a 404 yard (370 meter) beach front on Haitang Bay, and includes 142 guest rooms and 18 private villas. The rooms have natural and soft color interiors, and features such as custom-designed furniture, iPod docking stations, cable channels, TVs with DVD players, power outlet adapters, and signature Luxury Collection beds. Other amenities include 24-hour in-room dining, coffee and tea makers, bottled water in the rooms, and a TV and telephone in the bathroom.

Twenty one treatment rooms are available at the ABEl Touch Spa, where guests can undergo acupressure and indigenous treatments made from tropical fruits. The hotel’s signature restaurant The Begonia offers all-day dining featuring Italian-Californian cuisine, while the Spanish-themed Buganvillas Lobby Bar showcases wine and cocktails. The Bayview Lounge features cigars, wine, and cognac.

The Royal Begonia also offers guests a guided tour of the indigenous Li tribe’s Binlang village, as well as other attractions that include outings to Coconut Island and boating and diving ventures to Wuzhizhou Island. The hotel is about 25 kilometers from the main international airport in Sanya.
