Boeing 747-8, 777, Dreamliner to Get Wi-Fi, Phone Service, TV

Boeing announced that its flagship Boeing 747-8 Intercontinental as well as the Boeing 777 will soon be able to leave the factory with systems that support in-flight Internet via Wi-Fi, mobile telephony, wireless in-flight entertainment (IFE), and live television broadcasts.

The aviation giant also announced a retrofit kit for the Boeing 787 Dreamliner that will support in-flight internet and mobile telephony, with plans to a full suite of connectivity options to its catalog by the end of the year.

Boeing will support two systems, the Panasonic Global Communication Suite and the Thales TopConnect system.

Communications systems will start to be installed in aircraft starting at the end of 2013.
