Toyota Announces 2013 Avalon Hybrid
The Avalon hybrid will feature an EPA-rating of 40 mpg combined (40 city/ 39 highway), and will be the first full hybrid in the premium mid-size market. The hybrid features a 2.5-liter Atkinson-cycle four-cylinder engine and a 244.8-volt nickel-metal hydride battery pack. The vehicle can output 200 horsepower, and can operate in three different modes, EV (fully electric propulsion), ECO, and SPORT.
The V6 Avalon will provide 25 mpg combined (21 city/ 31 highway) on a 3.5-liter DOHC engine capable of 268 horsepower.
The redesigned Avalon was first introduced at the New York International Auto Show in April. It is based on the Lexus ES, and features design elements of the Toyota Camry.
