Lion Air, Indonesia’s largest privately run airline, has announced it will launch a luxury subsidiary, Batik Air, with flights scheduled to commence in March 2013.

Batik Air will focus on international routes, and each seat will provide in-flight entertainment systems, phones, and Internet.

Boeing has announced that Lion Air has ordered Boeing 787 Dreamliners for Batik Air. The first commercial flight of the Boeing 787 Dreamliner was in October 2011, and its first regular route, which launched in November 2011, was between Tokyo Haneda and Okayama.

Lion Air is headquartered in Jakarta, and currently flies to more than 40 destinations. The carrier also plans to inaugurate a private jet service, Lion Biz Jet Air, next month.
