ROAD WARRIOR SUPPORT

Before I go into the details of desks and chairs and Internet, I should comment on the excellent support I received from the staff of the IC lounge.  Not only did one of the staff members remember my fondness for carrot juice at breakfast from a past visit but she and her colleagues were very helpful in providing me with assistance ranging from having something printed to helping with the logistics of hosting a small meeting in the hotel.  This kind of support was not only greatly appreciated but also made me far more efficient and effective during my trips to the Bay Area.

The writing desk in the suite was in the foyer and far wider than average, which meant that there was plenty of room for papers, reports, my laptop, and any devices I needed to charge.  The desk in the guestroom was a bit more standard in size and positioned so that I sat facing looking out of one of the windows and I certainly enjoyed the view.

Both desks were paired with very comfortable ergonomic chairs that provided excellent support.

Electrical outlets were easy to find both on the desk and near the bed.  Wi-Fi was fast and free both in the suite and on the Club Floor.

The InterContinental San Francisco Spa offers a variety of treatments and there is an expansive fitness center with Jacuzzi and indoor pool that is open 24 hours a day.

For meetings, organizers have a choice of 2 ballrooms and 21 meeting rooms and all facilities feature natural light and high-speed Internet.

DINING

During my stays, I typically had breakfast in the lounge, where a variety of warm and cold dishes are served.  The lounge serves hors d’oeuvres in the evening and cookies later on.

I also dined at the hotel’s restaurant, Luce, during my stay. A separate review will be forthcoming.

BOTTOM LINE

A great hotel stay is far more than a nice room and fluffy bathrobe.  For those hotel guests who are working – and during my travels I have to keep up with my normal daily tasks as well as do things that include delivering keynotes at conferences and hosting meetings – a great hotel stay is a combination of great people, excellent support, superb food, and whatever the secret ingredient is that makes the whole thing gel.

That’s what I found at the InterContinental San Francisco and it’s the reason I am very much looking forward to my next visit there.
