Lopinto tips his hat again to American, as he recalls his best customer service experience while traveling.

“My wife and I were traveling back to New York from Hawaii through Dallas when the Northeast blackout hit a few years ago. When we arrived in Dallas, all the flights to New York had been cancelled.”

“The folks at the AA Admirals Club, he recalled, “spent 20 minutes trying to find us a way back home, and rerouted us on an AA flight to Virginia, with a connection on Delta to LaGuardia Airport, arriving only an hour or two later than scheduled. Keep in mind that we were on a ‘free’ award ticket. This was beyond the call of duty, and we were very grateful.”

Although he says that no particular hotel chain is his favorite, Lopinto describes the InterContinental in Singapore as “a great hotel for its hospitality, personnel, location, convenience, and charm.”

Lopinto usually travels light, taking only a laptop, an iPad, and one suitcase, a 22” TravelPro roll-a-board that he never checks.

For those new to doing business abroad, Lopinto has some advice: “Be yourself. Be respectful of the local customs and people and their lifestyle. Have fun, learn from them, and always remember that they are eager to learn about you and where you are from.  People are generally good, regardless of what you may hear about them in the news.”
