IN-FLIGHT SERVICE

As soon as boarding was finished, all passengers were on board, the door was closed, we were asked to turn of electronic devices,  and we pushed back without any delay.  Fortunately, there were only a few aircraft ahead of us for takeoff and we were soon underway.

Like clockwork, when we reached our cruising altitude, the cabin crew began to serve drinks and warm nuts.  I chose the Mer Soleil Silver chardonnay, which I’ve had before on Delta flights.  It is an elegant crisp white wine with a nice minerality.

The lunch menu was designed by Chef Michael Chiarello, owner of Bottega, a restaurant in Napa Valley.

The antipasto misto included volpi mozzarella rotola, vine-ripened tomatoes, chianti wine salami, and crostini with artichoke spread.  It was accompanied by a calabrese vegetable antipasto with fresh arugula, and parmesan dip with warm bread.

Entrée choices included pesto penne pasta and grilled beef tenderloin as well as chicken vendemia, my selection, with verjus sauce with celery root mashed potatoe purée and sautéed spinach.

The dessert offerings included caramel pecan gelato and a cheese plate that included Sonoma dry jack, Point Reyes blue cheese, and goat cheese with fennel spice.  I chose the fruit plate despite misgivings about the fennel in the goat cheese (I’m not the world’s biggest fennel fan, to put it mildly) but the other cheeses plus fresh grapes were wonderful.

IN-FLIGHT INTERNET

All Delta mainline aircraft have Gogo Internet access and the Gogo multimedia portal, which  provides access to flight information, weather at the destination, news, information about the destination, and access to online shopping deals.

While I’ve experienced slow speeds with Gogo in the past, the Internet gods were more generous this time and the speed was fast enough to surf the Web, read news, send and receive e-mail messages, and even listen to music.

ARRIVAL

Thanks to some strong tailwinds, our flying time was shorter than planned and we landed 20 minutes ahead of schedule.  As always, I only had my carry-on bags with me so I was walking down the terminal just a few minutes after reaching the gate.

BOTTOM LINE

This was my second domestic BusinessElite flight and it was quite enjoyable.  The food was excellent, the cabin crew was great, I got a lot of work done, the Internet worked, and all was good.
