According to Johannes Kepler, the universe was created on April 27 in the year 4977 B.C.E. Although Kepler’s research was highly respected, his calculations of the universe’s birthday were found to be off by 13.7 billion years when scientists in the twentieth century developed and accepted the Big Bang theory.
In 1909, Wilbur Wright und seine Flugmaschine (Wilbur Wright and His Flying Machine), the first ever film made from a heavier-than-air aircraft was filmed near Rome by a French company, Société Générale des Cinématographes Eclipse. Scroll down to view the original film.
In 2004, Boeing launched the 787 Dreamliner program amidst unprecedented public participation including a vote that resulted in the selection of the name “Dreamliner” (other choices were Global Cruiser, Stratoclimber, and eLiner) and input on the aircraft’s design via the Web. Originally code-named the 7E7, the first 787 Dreamliner was delivered to launch customer ANA in 2011.
Finally, in 2005, the Airbus A380 jumbo jet, designed to challenge Boeing’s monopoly in the large-aircraft market with the 747, made its maiden flight (pictured) taking off from Toulouse, France. It entered service in 2007.
