Via Inteligente has announced it will manufacture iPavement, a digital pavement system for city streets, starting in June. iPavement is actual paving stones for roads that are equipped with sensors, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth. iPavement will debut in Madrid and Dubai.

Using the Viacities OS and Wi-Fi/Bluetooth, iPavement will send information, messages, and alerts to mobile phones and tablets in the area.

iPavements features apps that include Via-Book (for local works), Via-Maps, Via-Sound (for music and local events), Via-Coupons, Analytical iPavement (to offer statistics about the public spaces), MS-Alert (for warnings about bad road conditions and such), and MS-Blue (programmed messages about the city).

iPavement will come in two formats, Classic and Accessible. Accessible will allow for universal accessibility for the blind or visually impaired through foot-sensitive grooves.
